Modern airpower is second-to-none with over 12,500 airframes available to the service. This includes a collection of combat / direct-attack types alongside a sizeable fleet of transports, tankers, special-mission platforms, and trainers made up of fixed-wing and rotary-wing types. Modernization has done well to keep select Cold War-era units viable for the modern battlefield and the service also benefits from its investment in next-generation types such as the F-22 and F-35 platforms. The USAF remains one of the few services to operate a dedicated bomber fleet, these designs capable of conventional and nuclear attacks. The special-mission force covers all manner of specialized airborne actions, providing allied aircraft and ground commanders with a critical eye-in-the-sky. The USN can take the fight to the enemy anywhere in the world thanks to its large carrier force. The USMC also maintains an impressive collection of aircraft that rivals (and in most cases) surpasses that of even top-flight world air services. US Army aviation operates a vast collection of rotorcraft centered on the AH-64 Apache attack helo and the UH-60 Black Hawk type.
NOTES: The USAF is in a period of major modernization with various limitations being addressed: F-35A fleet strength is at around 300 airframes with approximately 1,453 units on order. The F-15EX is on order with 104 units planned. The OA-1J Sky Warden has been ordered through a 75-strong procurement notice. The B-21 Raider, successor to the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, is on order through 100 planned examples. An additional 113 KC-46A Pegasus aerial tankers remain on order to add to the 61 in-service models. The USN awaits 236 F-35C carrier-centric models and another 58 F/A-18E/F Super Hornets. The USN also awaits some 49 CMV-22B tilt-rotors to further enhance the VTOL fleet.

The United States armed services showcases one of the world's largest unmanned drone forces centered primarily on Intelligence-Surveillance-Reconnaissance (ISR) types as well as direct-attack. These entries run the gamut of portable, hand-launched propeller-driven systems to runway-launched, jet-powered designs capable of loitering anywhere from hours to days / weeks with ever more advanced designs in the pipeline. All of the major services have invested in unmanned designs for use at the tactical and strategic levels with payoffs already seen in the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Ukraine.
NOTES: Estimates below have been made for specific entries when official totals are not made available. With relatively reduced complexity and maintenance requirements, UAVs maintain some of the highest readiness rates in the U.S. air services.

The United States ground forces has entered a period of extensive modernization to better reflect the requirements of the modern battlefield. Cold War-era thinking has given way to a more streamlined, mobile fighting force. The M1 Abrams MBT continues to lead the way for advancing ground forces backed by the venerable M2 Bradley IFV. The Stryker has increased its footprint in the force with its versatility in covering a myriad of battlefield roles. Beyond this is a growing collection of wheeled types designed from experience had in urban fighting across both Afghanistan and Iraq. Values below include systems for the U.S. Army followed by those operated by the USMC.
NOTES: The M10 Booker is available in limited quantities as its development / evaluation continues. The AMPV continues to grow in available numbers as it moves to succeed the Cold War-era relic M113 in the tracked Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) role.

The carrier fleet of the United States Navy separates it from regional rivals by a considerable margin. Leading the flotilla is a collection of ten nuclear-powered angled-deck carriers of the Nimitz-class. These are, however, rooted in Cold War philosophy and technologies to an extent, leading the service to invest mightily in the new Gerald R. Ford-class promising to enhance USN naval capabilities and then some. Only one of these supercarriers is in active service today. Regardless, the carrier force is further backed by a collection of straight-through deck amphibious assault ships which, while optimized for rotorcraft operations, also supports fixed-wing strike aircraft in the the AV-8B and advanced F-35 VTOL types. The attack submarine force is an all-nuclear fleet made up of remnants of the Cold War period (Los Angeles, Ohio, Sea Wolf) with more modern entries had in the up-and-coming Virginia boats - Los Angeles hulls are being retired in growing numbers to make way for these. The guided-missile cruiser force is a relic of the Cold War period as well and the service looks to reinvest in a modern fighting frigate design which is currently lacking in the destroyer-heavy fleet. The confusingly-named Littoral Combat Ship classes Freedom and Independence classes are already entering (or considering) retirement despite commissioning in the mid / late 2000s. The futuristic-looking Zumwalt-class guided-missile destroyer missed its mark, never filfilling the promised potential when 32 hulls were once planned - instead, just three were completed and two are active. Beyond this is a serviceable mine / countermine force, patrol vessels, and the three-masted USS Constitution, the oldest ship afloat, along with support ships used to streamline all manner of naval operations.
NOTES: The Constellation-class is a new planned group of fighting frigates of which 20 hulls are planned, 4 on order, and 1 having entered construction. These CODLAG-driven designs will form a new arm of the USN fleet when commissioned sometime in 2026 and beyond. The Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine class is a planned group of 12 boats intended to succeed the aging Ohio group. Two are on order with one having entered construction. Additional Virginia-class attack submarines are planned as are Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers. Support ships are also in the pipeline to cover second-line roles such as barracks ship, mobile / medical base, and towing-salvage actions.
