The United States ground forces has entered a period of extensive modernization to better reflect the requirements of the modern battlefield. Cold War-era thinking has given way to a more streamlined, mobile fighting force. The M1 Abrams MBT continues to lead the way for advancing ground forces backed by the venerable M2 Bradley IFV. The Stryker has increased its footprint in the force with its versatility in covering a myriad of battlefield roles. Beyond this is a growing collection of wheeled types designed from experience had in urban fighting across both Afghanistan and Iraq. Values below include systems for the U.S. Army followed by those operated by the USMC.
